The Lake District is rich in its wildlife and this provides another pull for visitors. Specific projects you may find of interest are:
The Lake District Osprey Project
Based in Whinlatter Forest Park this is a conservation success story about the introduction of ospreys into the area. Each year this is shared with visitors via web cam links to the osprey nest.
Red Squirrels Northern England
It remains possible to see red squirrels in pockets of the Lake District. We have red squirrels that visit our feeders, and there are also good chances of spotting red squirrels in Whinlatter Forest Park and Dodd Wood.
Dubwath Silver Meadows Wetland Nature Reserve
From the hides set up on this nature reserve, a variety of birds (40 different kinds already recorded) and animals can be observed. There is also an interesting diversity of insects and flora.
